Flute and piccolo player, musician and music teacher
Biography
Barbara Kerr is a Melbourne flute player, musician and music teacher. She studied at the University of Melbourne graduating with a Bachelor of Music degree and post graduate Diploma of Education. Barbara studied flute with Alan Hardy successfully undertaking her AMusA and LMusA diplomas.
Teaching
A passionate music educator, Barbara has taught instrumental music for twenty years in Melbourne schools and in her home studio. She has enormous experience working with primary and secondary students in independent and government schools. Barbara has successfully prepared hundreds of students for AMEB examinations, Victorian Certificate of Education performance study and tertiary auditions. Her musicianship and energy, creativity, insight and humour make her an inspiring teacher who generously shares her love and knowledge of music with her students.
Performing
Barbara has appeared as a flute and piccolo player with many Melbourne based music theatre companies and orchestras in addition to her work as a freelance chamber musician. She has performed in productions such as Der Freishutz, Turandot, La Boheme, Carmen and the Merry Widow with Melbourne Opera: Chess, The Sound of Music, Fiddler On The Roof with CLOC, Babirra, Nova and other companies. She has performed in concerts with Stonnington and Zelmann orchestras conducted by wonderful musicians such as Barry Tuckwell and Benjamin Northey. Barbara performs regularly with flutist and good friend Anne Rose as the Bellbird duo.
